Arena is my entry for the 25th Anniversary Blythe Beauty Contest, and I am delighted that she has been selected as a Top 50 semi finalist.
Arena is a desert wanderer, traversing the dunes under the blazing sun, searching for a land of lushness. She is named for the Spanish word for sand, deriving from the Latin for the sandy place where battles were waged in Roman gladiator times, appropriately as she is a brave and relentless fighter.
She wears light, flowing cotton garb to protect her beauty from the harsh desert conditions. I created a balaclava with removable scarf, hand stitched leather goggles to protect Arena’s eyes from the intense desert sun, a t-shirt, and wide legged pants with working pockets for her. Her balaclava has whimsical rabbit ears, a reminder that even during times that test our endurance, we need to make space for joy and play.
Her base doll is Blythe #Love<3Jaylah, and I made her a soft, sun bleached alpaca reroot, gave her carving and new makeup, fine eye lashes, and custom pull charms. I added new eye chips by Puppelina and Toast Doll, and she wears boots by Zapatos Merchis. I left her stock golden brown eyes in place as they suit her so beautifully.
